I’m coming to realize I hate the week I am able to eat bread. I’ve said in the past that bread, pasta and rice are my crack and it’s not really a joke.

I’m finding a very ugly truth about myself. Eating SOME bread, past and rice but not going overboard actually takes MORE self-control than not eating it at all.

Once I begin putting it back in my diet it’s like Starch-A-Palooza. Take yesterday. I did fine at breakfast. I had one FF Hotdog wrapped by a 2% slice of Pepper Jack Cheese. (DON’T JUDGE ME! I paid for it all day. My GOD for so little food it caused a HUGE amount of indigestion. Bleh) Lunch was a Flatbread sandwich from Subway. (I REALLY enjoyed that. The Flatbread was chewy and yummy and I didn’t feel like I’d eaten an entire loaf of bread. I could also TASTE the rest of my sandwich. WIN WIN) I chose the flatbread because I thought it was a better choice than the regular bread. Dinner I had a bunless hamburger patty with a slice of 2% cheese and a baked potato. (I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spray, 2% cheese). Unfortunately, the flatbread served as a gateway food to craving more junk-type foods. I tried to fight it off by eating grapes, cherries, and a plum but I still wanted JUNK! I ended up eating 2 shortbread cookies.

That may not sound like a big deal but when you consider I ate bread, potato and a couple of cookies it’s a LOT more starch and non fruit carbs than I’ve been taking in on the weeks I eat NONE.

I hate that I struggle with this so much. I am skipping breakfast this morning. I KNOW, I KNOW it’s not a good thing to do. However, all I WANT to eat is raisin toast with some ICBINB Spray on it. If I eat something else I’ll end up giving in to the craving for the damn Raisin Bread so I’m not eating until lunch. For lunch I’ll have Split Pea Soup. Hopefully that will help kill my cravings for something starchy. We are doing leftovers for dinner. I’ll eat some meat and some veggies and supplement with fruit throughout the day.

Tomorrow I’ll try again to add in ONE starchy food and see how it goes.

So, what is YOUR trigger or gateway food???
